CHAPTER 8

W:What can I get you?
Ashley looks at the waitress,by her side as she sits down by the table.Jeremy also sits down,looking at Ashley patiently.
A: (hesitates)Oh,..Am,a cappuchino,please...
The waitress nodes and looks at Jeremy.
J: Just water.
W: Alright,I ll be right back!
As the waitress leaves,Ashley looks at Jeremy very uncomfortable,as he leans with his arms on the table and smiles at her.Even a few seconds pass,while not she or he dont say a word.
J: So...Cappuchino?
A: Yeah,..I only had one today and I cant live without it.
Jeremy nodes,smiling a little.
A: Water??(confused)
J: It kinda growed onto me!(laughs)
A: Oh.
J: (breathes out,looking at her like in trance)Waaw,you ve really grown!
A: Yeah,I know.I was little back then,wasnt I?
J: No,I mean,you ve gotten older.
A: Thanks!What a compliment!(sarcastic)
J: (laughs)No,I dont mean that!..I mean...You ve grown into a beautiful and independent,young woman!
Ashley raises her head and gives him that innocent look of hers,staring at him.
A: Yeah,..well-
J: And changed.
A: What do you mean?(with a half of a smile)
J: Your hair,...Your style,...The way you walk and act...
A:Yeah,well..Just like you said...(looks at him)People change,Jeremy!
J: (smiles and shows at himself)I havent!
A: (smiles a little)No,you really havent!
J: And you ve made your dreams come true!
A: (gives him that disappointed look)How do you know I have?
J: Well,didnt you?Your a famous singer and possibly every little girl who wants to step into your shoes looks up to you!
Ashley laughs a little,looking down.
J: (with a calm voice,softly)Ivy would be so proud of you!
A: Yeah,..(sadly)I miss her.
J: I know....
They both stop talking for a few seconds looking at eachother a little uncomfortable.
J: Oh,by the way...How are your parents?Still-
A: Divorced you mean?
J: Sorry..
A: Dont be.They just couldnt get along with eachother,but above all they didnt really love eachother I guess...
J: How are they?
A: Well,the truth is...I dont know.After I turned 18,I moved out of my moms house...and after she married again I didnt really visit her much...
J: (surprisingly shocked)I..I am-
A: Shocked?..What a surprise,hm?
J: What about your father?
A: Hes in Chicago..He earns a lot of money,but he never remarried!...Always when I visit him..He has someone other,but..I think none of them is my mother...(smiles)but hes alright,I guess.
Jeremy keeps looking at her,with nothing good to say.
A: So,..What about your parents?Happy as ever?
J: Yes..they had their silver wedding last year.
A: Waw,The I guess I must congratulate them..
J: I guess..
Suddenly the waitress shows up and puts their drinks on the table,giving them a wake up call.
W: Here are your drinks!

CHAPTER 9

J: Thank you!
The waitress nodes nicely and walks away,while the two look at eachother again.
A: So,what about you?Big movie star!
J: (smiles)Oh,you really think as me like that?
A: Why not,when its the truth!...Or,wait..What does Eve always say?.."the popular hottie from the cinema screen!"
J: (laughs)Really?Eve?
A: My best friend!...You would like her!..She thinks you re hot!(smiles)
Jeremy starts to laugh and looks at her.
J: I believe I would...Best friend?What happened to Charlotte?And Brad?I havent heard from them in ages!!
A: Me neither!(shakes with her head)
J: What?(confused)
A:We kinda lost contact,you know...
J: Waw..The last I heard from them is that they are happy together and that they were looking for a house here in A.L.
A: Really?
J: Yes.
A: Anything else?(smiles)
J: Oh,I met..Evian last year at a premiere..I guess her carrier of becoming a model became reality..
A: What??(shocked)Shes a model?
J: Aha.
A: Then why didnt I her about her..In the news or something?
J: Well..Shes working on that!(smiles)
A: Oh.(laughs)
J: (gazes at her)More then four long years,hm?Can you believe it?
A: hardly..
J:And Is there anyone in your life?
Ashley looks at him and he starts to stutter.
J:Wel..I,I..You know what..
A: I know what you meant.
Jeremy waits for her answer,looking at her as she takes her strength to speak up.
A: (breathes out)His name is Rob!
Jeremy looks at her although four years passed a little disappointed.
A: We ve been together since two years.
J: And?Do you think he is a keeper?
A: I dont know yet.
Jeremy nodes quickly in panic and smiles at her.
A: And you?
J: Yes....(looks at her)May.We are together for three years...
A: waw,then she must be special!
J: She is.
A: Any future plans?
J: (looks at her sadly)We re engaged actually...
A: (shocked,disappointed,with mixed feelings and a half of a smile)Oh,...So,you found the girl of your dreams,hm?
J: (looks at her with his puppy,disappointed eyes)I already had the girl of my dreams!
Ashley looks at him,deeply wanting to say something,when she feels somebody is pulling for her sleeve.
K: Ice cream,Ice cream!!!
Katie is standing by her side,very hyperactive,jumping around.
A: (wakes up)Sorry,honey,what did you say?
K: Ice cream!!I want Ice cream!!
A: Ok,(takes a little money out of her bag and gives it to her)But just one!Ok?
K: Ok,mommy!
A: here you go!
Ashley gives her the money and she runs to the ice cream man,infront the restaurant.Jeremy looks after her,confused,very confused and then turns back to Ashley again.
J: Mommy?..S-shes your,..Your-
A: Yes,shes my daughter,Jeremy(she softly speaks)....
J: S-s-since when?Since when do you have a daughter?
A: Oh,well a long story...(she says nervously)
J: How old is she?
A: shes fo-....(stops)
She stops,shocked,when she thinks about it,as she sees Jeremy looking at her like that.
A:Three...(breathes out)Shes three..
J: Really?(looks at Katie)Waw...
A: Yeah...

J: But,shes..Shes not Robs daughter,is she?
A: No,she isnt!..But,she likes him.He is really nice to her and shows her respect.
J: Thats great...What happened to her father?
Ashley looks at him and sees his face,his innocent face and cant believe shes really doing this.
A: He--he....(hesitates)He died.
J: Im,..Im sorry,Ashley.
A: Yeah,well...
Right then,Katie comes running back to them,with a chocolate ice cream.
A: (smiles at her)Hey,sweetie,come here..
Katie comes closer to her and Ashley takes her,picks her up into her lap and holds her in her arms.
A: So?Had fun at the playground?
K: Aha!
Ashley smiles and looks at Jeremy.
A: Katie,this is Jeremy!
J: hey, there!(smiles)
K: hello!
J: Do you like ice cream very much?
K: S-s-sure I do!Its s-s-super!
Jeremy smiles and looks at Ashley.
A: (smiles and nodes)Ok,..I know..She has this lisp thing!
J: Thats soo cute!...(looks at Katie)You know Katie I also had a lisp when I was little.Remember Ash?
A: Aha..(a little bit out of focus)
J: Waw,she has your hair!
A: They are not purple!(laughs)
J: I mean your actual brown hair,Ash!....I bet she has your eyes too!
Thats when Ashley freezes and turns Katies face away from Jeremy.Jeremy looks confused at her,as she keeps her shocked expression on her face in panic.
J: (worried)What is it?
A: I have to go!
She stands up quickly,takes her stuff and holds Katies hand.Jeremy also stands up and looks at her.
J: Ashley...
A: Im sorry...
J: Was it something I said?
A: No,I just..I am tired.It was a long day and Katie is probably also tired..
K: But,Mommy..
A: Come on Katie!
Ashley picks Katie up and holds in her arms,when she turns to Jeremy,with a small smile on her disappointed face.
A: Bye,Jeremy...
J: See you,Ashley..(he says calmly,sadly)
She turns around slowly and starts to walk away.Jeremy keeps standing there and looking after her.She keeps on walking and Jeremy just sees the little Katie in Ashleys arms,looking at him and waving goodbye with her hand to him.Jeremy smiles a little at her and waves back,and keeps looking at them,while they are slowly walking away.
