“You may now kiss the bride.” Chrissy’s vail was lifted but the grooms face wasn’t who she expected.
Chris woke up breathing really hard and sweating. ‘What kind of dream was that?’ she wondered. “Hey are you ok baby?” “Yeah, I’m fine Jake. I just… had a bad dream; you can go back to sleep.” Chrissy said giving him a kiss on the cheek. “Alright.”
Chris got out of bed a walked out into the living room and onto the balcony overlooking New York City. ‘Why did I have a dream about him?’ she wondered. ‘I haven’t seen him in six years, why now? Jake and I just got engaged tonight after 2 and ½ years together. Why would I have a dream about marrying ‘him’?’ Then Chrissy was shaking her head laughing at herself. ‘And why are you worrying about this Chris? It’s not like you’re just going to suddenly see him in New York.’ Chrissy laughed and headed back inside and went to bed; trying to completely forget that she had a dream that night of marrying Jeremy Sumpter.
Chrissy had just finished another one of her Broadway plays during a nice summer night in New York. She had just picked up all of her things and was ready to head out when she decided to ask her best friend Emily about her dream.
“Hey Em?” “Yeah hun?” “Can I ask…” “Oh wait! Sorry, but before I forget there’s this hot guy outside who wants to see you.” “Oh really?” Chrissy said, thinking Em was talking about Jake, since she always refers to him as ‘some hot guy’. “Yeah, he’s got some yellow roses with him too.” Chris smiled and grabbed her purse. “Thanks hun!” She said and walked out of the dressing room, completely forgetting about her question.
As Chrissy walked through the lobby and towards outside she was really excited to see Jake. He was supposed to be gone already for three weeks to do some business work; so it was exciting to see he was here for one more night. She walked outside and that’s when she saw him; the guy with a dozen yellow roses. After that, everything went black.
Chrissy woke up with a really bad headache, and on a very comfortable bed. “Mmhm….” She mumbled putting her hand to her head. “Sh, you’re ok.” She felt an ice pack go to the side of her head. Chris opened her eyes and got a clear view of who her healer was. She screamed and tried to roll away and ended up falling off the bed. He ran over to help her up but Chris stood up and walked backwards away from him. Finally after the shock she said something.
“What am I doing here?” She asked herself looking everywhere but at the guy. “Well you…” “Shut up you.” Chris said and put her hand up to shush him. She let out a big sigh. “I’m dreaming, I’ve gotta be dreaming. Just another one of those stupid dreams like last night. I’m just gonna close my eyes and on the count of three I’m gonna wake up. One… two… three!” She opened her eyes wide and was still there. Then she pinched herself and let out a yelp. “What was that for?” “To see if I was dreaming.” He just shook his head and smiled. ‘She sure has gotten crazier in the past six years.’ He thought. “Jeremy! Stop laughing!”
Jeremy stopped and looked at her. “So, you finally said my name. I was beginning to think that you had forgotten who I was.” Chrissy just looked at him like, ‘you did not just say that.’ “Rrr…” Chris covered her face with both of her hands and plopped back down on the bed. “You know, I could say the same thing to you.” She said lifting her head to look at him. “Yeah,” Jeremy said sitting down next to her, “I know.”
“So, tell me,” Chris started, still with her back laying on the bed. “Six years and you choose now to come and visit me.” “Well, I came to New York for a month just to explore the city before I start filming here.” “Ok,” Chris said still a little confused. “And I heard you were on Broadway, so I decided to come and see you.”
“Wow, you choose to wait six years to see me? One day you just thought, ‘Hm, I haven’t seen that next door neighbor girl who I used to date. I think I’ll go to New York and see how she’s doing.’” She stood up and looked at him and before he said anything she added more. “Jeremy, everybody that I knew in California has been here to see me. Jess has, Gigi has, my mom has, and even your mom has come out here to see me. A year after moving here I learned to shut you out of my head. I never heard form you and I thought I never would. I figured you were doing well, considering all the movie commercials you were in. But there was always something in the back of my head wondering if you ever thought about me, and how I was doing.” Chrissy finished and was now looking at Jeremy face to face.
“Chrissy, I thought about you every day after you moved. Seeing your house and knowing that you were no longer living there. It took me forever to move on and eventually I did. But then later I kept hearing everyone talking about you and how awesome you were doing. Everyone said you were amazing on Broadway and I realized I was stupid for not supporting in the first place and not being first in line to buy you show tickets. I really missed seeing you Chrissy.” Chris turned around and looked at him and asked with a smile, “Really?” Jeremy smiled, “Yeah, I did.”
Chrissy smiled yet again and lightened up. “Listen, I’m sorry I was kinda pissy a few minutes ago. It’s just that I haven’t seen you in so long so…” “No problem, I’d probably act the same way.” They both laughed and looked around a little and Chrissy noticed the time on the clock. “Holy crap! Is that the right time?” “Yeah it is, why?” “It’s 12:05 am! How long have I been passed out?” It was around 10:45pm when Chrissy left the theater. “About 45 minutes.” “Oh my god, I am so sorry, I should really get going.” She said and grabbed her purse. When she turned around Jeremy was holding the yellow roses.
“You fainted before I got a chance to give these to you.” “Thanks,” She said while smelling them. “They’re…” “Your favorite.” Jeremy finished. Chrissy smiled and looked at him, ‘he remembered.’ “Well I was going to say beautiful; but yeah, they are my favorite.” The both looked at each other like they did way back when. Then Chris broke the stare and said “Well, uh, I should, uh, head out. So I guess I’ll…” “Do you want to have lunch with me tomorrow?” “You mean today?” Chris said, since it was 12am in the morning. “Yeah, today, around 1pm? At that restaurant and next to the theater?” Jeremy looked at her with hopeful easy and all she could do was smile. “That sounds nice. I guess I will see you then.” Chris said as Jeremy opened the hotel door for her. “Alright, goodnight Chrissy.” “Night Jeremy.” Chrissy smiled and walked down the hallway. Jeremy watched her get on the elevator and then closed his door and Chrissy leaned against the elevator wall. “He’s just a friend, he’s just a friend.” She kept repeating. “You’re engaged remember.” Chris took a deep breath and headed home to get as much sleep as she could until her lunch at 1pm with a ‘friend.’
